The Lord Elgin Hotel is an elegant centrally located hotel in the heart of downtown Ottawa. Ottawa’s Winterlude takes place literally across the street at Conferederation Park, and the National Arts Center is minutes away. The hotel is within easy walking distance of a host of restaurants on Elgin Street or nearby Byward Market. Guests can also enjoy views of the Rideau Canal, a world heritage UNESCO site.
A lobby and bar area with a fireplace welcome visitors from the chilly outdoors. Flat screen TVs add a modern touch to an otherwise classic elegance.
Although not as well known as the Chateau Laurier, the Lord Elgin Hotel offers just as much, if not more than its landmark counterpart. The Lord Elgin Hotel is privately owned, with its owners on-site, offering a family-run operation with unsurpassed quality of service.
Named after Lord Elgin, the Governor of British North America from 1847-54, the hotel was designed in 1941 as a modern adaptation of the French chateau style. The current Lord and Lady Elgin (Andrew and Victoria Bruce) regularly visit Ottawa and their namesake hotel.
To celebrate its 60th birthday in 2001, the Lord Elgin Hotel was upgraded by adding 65 rooms, renovating all 355 rooms, and adding a state-of-the-art health facility, swimming pool, saunas and whirlpool.
Grill 41, the Lord Elgin’s newest addition, has just opened as of March 2011. Named after the year the hotel was built, the new restaurant boasts of a international cuisine by Chef Brian Vallipuram. Celebrity Chef Michael Smith has helped create innovative menus for every palate.
Whether looking for classic elegance, or a full service hotel with all amenities, or a hotel in the heart of Ottawa, the Lord Elgin has it all.
